Elective

This year, for my elective, I was able to study engineering. And although we spent a lot of time working with the Engineering Process, developing solutions, and solving problems, in that class, the project that has truly displayed my best work was my Genius Hour Project. In the Genius Hour Project, you can choose any small project that you want to do, whether it is developing a new product, or simply doing something that you have always wanted to do. For me, I personally decided to do something that I have always wanted to do since the beginning of the school year; write a screenplay. This shows my best work because I genuinely put the most effort, heart, emotions, basically my everything into this project, and it turned out to be something that I am actually proud of.

For my screenplay, I decided to write around the ideas of friendship. The plot basically goes like this: Ann and Jay have been friends since childhood, but soon Ann finds herself drifting apart from Jay, after Jay decides to join a club, where he makes many friends. Ann is forced to look the realities of her life, that she has always hid from whenever she was with Jay. This story was basically something that was based off of a friendship that I had, where I found myself drifting apart with someone. Although the circumstances were a little different, it chronicles how hard it is to let go of someone, when you don’t know the whole story or anything about letting go of them. This was a story that I truly put myself into. And I think that this is why it is my best work. I wrote a total of 120 pages, and I had 6 weeks to work on the project. As I was writing it, I began to think more about the experiences that I have had in real life, and in some way, it also helped me think about things that I should have done. Writing it was sort of like an analysis on my life and what was going on. And that helped me write better. The thing that made me be even more proud of this was that I emailed this to a professor at a university, and although he gave me a lot of tips on the format on the screenplay, he told me he really liked the plot and how I formatted the characters. This made me even more proud of my own writing. So I believe that this was my best work.
